A little kludge might work
Table-assisted_litecss
Luci pointed out that he has tested with three columns and two side margins in IE7, and it does work in the sense that the center column content pushes the right column sideways in table-like fashion. But these overlap the right margin rather than pushing it to the right. What I had in mind is the entire content area remaining within the graphic frame rather than overlapping any part of it.As a workaround until more *litecss magic can be worked, or until IE7 supports display: table, a nasty but workable kludge could be to use conditional comments in tiki.tpl to add a table that only IE sees and uses. If successful, this will be a big step toward settling on one tiki template for all bundled themes.
So far, I haven't been able to get IE7 to work with a "fixed-width" content area "foating" between margins in the viewport even with a table kludge added (fails when wide center-column content loads; kludge table causes problems for column floats even with normal content). I'd still like to find a way, but if I can't and no one else has a solution for this, then it seems my original post about needing two basic tiki.tpl files might be accurate after all.

Ah, yeah, those were part of the Templatemo package and were just carried forward for no particular reason. I removed them in the Tiki 5 version.

In greenblog, in hte styles/greenblog folder when I downloaded the tiki4 zip for it.
chibaguy, 05:06 GMT, Mon 06 of Sep., 2010:
sorry, orionrobots, where do you see those images? (Some themes have image files that aren't used by Tiki but were part of the original theme files, but I don't know if this is true in this case.)
orionrobots, 20:54 GMT, Sat 04 of Sep., 2010:
Hmm - those thumb_01 ... thumb_06 images in greenblog don't appear to have any function.. Have I missed something?

Alternatively, I could consider taking the orionrobots design and adapting it into greenblog... Switching floral for techie stuff... Might work beautifully...
