Skeleton

Skeleton theme for designers

New to Tiki5.

Tiki themes are meant to be usable with minimal modification. Add a logo, set the title, and subtitle, etc. and they are very efficient in this.

But what if you want to start from scratch? Say hello to Skeleton theme (skeleton.css), a theme that serves a base for theme designers that want to build from the ground up! The theme has a simplified tiki.tpl file, and just the basic CSS needed for layout purposes.

Switch to skeleton (to see what it's like).

Switch back.

The Skeleton theme was created in response to comments that the default tiki.tpl file - which is the basic file for displaying a Tiki site - is too complex for a designer who is not familiar with it to be able to quickly implement his or her visual design as a Tiki website.

The default tiki.tpl file is necessarily rather complex because it contains conditional statements to enable many configuration options and so on. Trying to find the basic structural parts of the file amid all of those statements is a bit daunting.

To produce a new theme based on Skeleton, its files should be duplicated and renamed. See the documentation on how to create a theme. The designer has the option of adding back in any of the conditional switch statements from the default tiki.tpl file after the new theme is created, of course.

Anyone using the Skeleton theme to implement a design (or trying to), please give feedback about how the files could be more useful. It would also be nice to see the results of such a project.

chibaguy, 05:06 GMT, Wed 08 of Sep., 2010: Ah, yeah, those were part of the Templatemo package and were just carried forward for no particular reason. I removed them in the Tiki 5 version.
orionrobots, 10:03 GMT, Tue 07 of Sep., 2010: In greenblog, in hte styles/greenblog folder when I downloaded the tiki4 zip for it.
chibaguy, 05:06 GMT, Mon 06 of Sep., 2010: sorry, orionrobots, where do you see those images? (Some themes have image files that aren't used by Tiki but were part of the original theme files, but I don't know if this is true in this case.)
orionrobots, 20:54 GMT, Sat 04 of Sep., 2010: Hmm - those thumb_01 ... thumb_06 images in greenblog don't appear to have any function.. Have I missed something?
orionrobots, 18:23 GMT, Sat 04 of Sep., 2010: Alternatively, I could consider taking the orionrobots design and adapting it into greenblog... Switching floral for techie stuff... Might work beautifully...
